Your credit score determines whether you are eligible for a finance or a credit card. A high score gives you benefits such as faster processing, low profit rates and high finance amounts.
Your credit score is a three-digit score that plays an important role in determining whether you are eligible for a finance or a credit card. The higher your credit score, the easier it is for you to get a finance or credit card from a bank. And the more benefits you enjoy, such as faster processing, less paperwork, low profit rates, high finance amounts and credit limits.
The Al Etihad Credit Bureau
In the UAE, the Al Etihad Credit Bureau (AECB) generates credit reports that include your credit score. These reports are made by collecting credit information such as number of finances, number of credit cards, payment history, credit limit utilisation, debit cards, bounced cheques etc., from various sources such as banks, finance and insurance companies, telecom operators and service providers.
It’s important to know your credit score – being informed about it will help you manage your finances better.
If required, you can apply for your credit score online at https://aecb.gov.ae/credit-score or via the AECB App. You can get your entire credit report or just your credit score - both are subject to a fee.
If you check your credit report, you can find out what is dragging down your score.
Things you can do to improve your credit score:
It takes a while - You can’t improve your score overnight, even by paying all your bills. It will likely take a few months. And negative elements will continue to affect your credit report for a few years. So, it's really best to keep your credit history clean.
A credit score can be between 300 and 900. Anything above 700 is a good score. Anything below 400 is not, and your applications for finances and credit cards are unlikely to be accepted by any bank. So make sure your credit score is good before you apply to avoid rejection. A low score can be improved.
For most people, this is not possible. But if you pay your bills on time, pay off your debts and don’t use up all your credit limit, your credit score will improve within a few months.
Missing payments, bounced cheques, too many credit cards and finances, using your entire credit limit are all factors that negatively affect your score.
The information in your credit report is provided to AECB by banks, finance companies, telecom companies and other service providers. If you find inaccuracies in your credit report, Al Etihad Credit Bureau can help you to raise it with the respective information provider.
