Make a Cheque Deposit into Your Account

You can deposit a cheque into your account at one of our branches, Cheque Deposit Machines (CDMs) or Interactive Teller Machines (ITMs). We have these machines at several locations as well as in our branches for your convenience.

How to Deposit a Cheque

You can deposit up to 25 cheques per transaction at a CDM or ITM.

To use a CDM or ITM, you must carry your Emirates ID and either have your debit card with you or know your account number.

When Will My Money Be in My Account?

The processing and clearing time for cheques depends on the type of cheque and the channel used.

Cheques issued by Emirates Islamic

  • If deposited at an Emirates Islamic CDM before 2:00 pm on a working day, the cheque will be processed on the same day. Cheques deposited after 2:00 pm and on weekends or public holidays will be processed on the next working day.
  • If deposited at an Emirates NBD branch, the cheque will be processed on the same day only if deposited before 2:00 pm.
  • If deposited at another bank, the cheque will be processed on the same working day after receiving the request from the other bank.
  • Manager’s Cheques will be processed on the same day if deposited before 2:00 pm. After 2:00 pm and on weekends or public holidays, they will be processed on the next working day.

Cheques issued by other banks

  • If deposited at an Emirates Islamic branch or CDM before 10:00 am, the cheque will be processed on the same working day.
  • International cheques take up to 45 working days to process.
  • International demand drafts are processed within 25 to 30 working days.

FAQs

There’s no limit for depositing a cheque, but for cheque encashment the limit is AED 200,000.

You can use your Emirates ID or your debit/credit card.

Yes, you can deposit a Manager’s Cheque as long as it is an account payee cheque. However, International Cheques and International Demand Drafts can only be deposited at a branch.

Your cheque will be returned to you for the following reasons:

  • There is insufficient balance in the account
  • The person who signed the cheque is unauthorised
  • The signature on the cheque does not match the bank records, or the cheque is unsigned
  • The date is missing, or the cheque is more than 6 months old
  • The name of the payee is missing
  • The cheque is issued in a different currency
  • The cheque details are incorrect
  • The amount in words and the numbers on the cheque do not match

If the cheque is deposited at an Emirates Islamic CDM connected to a branch, the cheque can be collected from the same branch on the next working day.

The cheque will be kept at the Emirates Islamic branch for 14 days. If it is not claimed, it will be sent to your registered PO Box.

If the cheque is deposited at a standalone CDM, it will be sent to your domicile branch.

If the cheque is deposited at an Emirates Islamic branch or CDM, it will be sent to your domicile branch.
